19th Century Suffolk Dollhouse Restoration is Complete!

Earlier this year the Society received a gift of an 1890's era doll house that had its roots here in Suffolk. The house was built for Bess Holland (later Creekmore), who lived at 216 Bank Street, just up the street from the Phillips-Dawson House. In the early 1960's the house was donated to Richmond's Valentine Museum, who donated it back to Suffolk Nansemond Historical Society nearly half a century later.

Bess's father was Col. E. E. Holland who eventually served as a congressman from this district.

The doll house contains more than one hundred pieces of furniture and decorative items that are part of the collection.

Note the Christmas tree in the downstairs parlor.

The restoration team incuded Dempse Burgess, Lee King, Hazel White, and Jimmy White. Sid Thomas built the display table. Above, Dempse and Hazel paint the walls of the house.
